Americans’ long-term savings in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, pension funds, and life insurance funds total about $30 trillion. But not even 1 percent of these savings touch local small business—even though roughly half the jobs and the output in the private economy come from them. So, how can people increasingly concerned with the poor returns from Wall Street and the devastating impact of global companies on their communities invest in Main Street?

Welcome to Invest Local AZ! We’re just a few folks in Tucson looking to work together to invest in our local economy. Join us!
Inspired by Michael Schuman’s Local Dollars, Local Sense; Woody Tasch’s Slow Money; and the success of similar models around the country, we are looking for other folks in Tucson who want to work together to invest in our local economy. We are in early stages now and looking for enthusiastic people who want to help us brainstorm, make connections with businesses and organizations in Tucson, and ultimately invest in a project together.

In contrast to far-flung multi-national corporations and financial institutions that are too large to understand, small food enterprises are comprehensible. We live near them. We can connect to them directly. Their entrepreneurs are our fellow community members. They create jobs, promote cultural, ecological and economic diversity, and build robust local food systems.
